Norma Howe Hamilton Fisher was diagnosed with leukemia just four days before she died. During that short time, she was able to experience so many people who came and gave genuine testimony to how much they loved her. Her hospital room (which had as much UO memorabilia as Autzen Stadium) was a place where classmates, old boyfriends, former co-workers, friends and family shared memories along with tears and laughter. Before she passed she commented that she'd "never had so many hugs." Norma's last words were spoken as she sung the Milwaukie High School "Rally Girl" song with her best friend and two daughters.
Norma Lou Howe was born on Jan. 22, 1939, and lived most of her life in Milwaukie. She is a proud member of the Milwaukie Union High School Class of 1957. She always said "the class of '57 has its dreams." Our dream for her is that she is at peace knowing how very much she was loved by so many. She was a former dental assistant and for over 25 years worked at Wright Business Graphics in customer service.
Norma found much joy in "majoring in the minor things" in life! She celebrated Groundhog Day with her daughters each year, blew her duck lip whistle after every touchdown, never missed an opportunity to wear her "Rudolph" illuminated nose at Christmas or honk and wave at every fast food mascot trying to lure in customers. Her laughter was contagious and her compassion sincere. She cried at every episode of "The Walton's" and whenever the national anthem was played. She shared all of her emotions and feelings with others never missing an opportunity to tell people how much they were loved.
She was happily married to Ron Fisher, the proud mother of Dawn and Tahni, and probably her proudest accomplishment, "Grandma Loco" to Duncan and Libby!
A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17 at Milwaukie Lutheran Church, 3810 S.E. Lake Road, Milwaukie, OR 97222.
Per her request, Norma's service will be a BYOB affair - "bring your own balloon" - as she loved them so much. We hope to fill her room with bright and joyful colors as we celebrate her life!
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in her name are made to the Milwaukie Union High School Class of '57 Scholarship Fund. These can be sent in care of Marlene Stephenson 18360 S.E. Willamette Dr. Milwaukie, Oregon 97267.
