I love my job. Absolutely love it!! I work for the best hospital, too!! Not only do they value their patients and treat them with the utmost dignity and respect, but they treat their employees that way too!!! Only a month in to orientation I got sick, first a bad cold that had me out for four days, then an infection that had me in the hospital for a couple of days, and off work for a few more days beyond that. I was so worried that I'd get fired for having, basically, two weeks off due to sickness so early in my employment, but my boss was very reassuring, even walked me out of the hospital herself when I was discharged home.
The way it works there, she said, is that when an employee is sick and needs to stay home, they (my employer) really wants them to stay home, really. Not just to recuperate, which is a big reason, but also because they don't want the patients and other employees exposed as well. This is such a change from other places I've worked where there was no backup plan, no float or on-call staff to come in if someone was sick, therefore I would work even when I was miserable, or worst case, once I worked when I had a fever, only because there wasn't anyone else to call in. And, that time, of course my desk partner got sick, probably from me. She had to come in while she was sick as well. That was kind of a sucky job.
But, back to my glowing appraisal of where I work now, I not only feel like I am needed, but also wanted. I love my coworkers too. I don't know if it's because Adventist is a strongly faith-based hospital, but there is such integrity there, and everyone is so pleasant. Even on their bad days, these people are nicer than a lot I've known on their good days. It's really a different atmosphere, and makes me wish that I had started working there years and years ago.
So, that's it for now. I've been busy so haven't kept up with my blog, not that I have a hoard of readers waiting for my next big post or anything, but just FYI for the future, I think monthly updates will have to do.
